Nike x Design
Nike x Design is a first-of-its-kind, six-month apprenticeship program, launched by Nike in January 2019. Nike x Design is focused on finding top design talent from populations who have traditionally been under-represented in design. We developed a pilot with Nike and community colleges in Los Angeles that resulted in 13 students from L.A. area community colleges becoming apprentices at Nike. Apprentices learned about design, business and company culture at Nike World HQ in Beaverton, Oregon. They also travelled to New York and Boston for creative inspiration. At the end of the six months, apprentices gave a final project presentation to over 150 Nike executives, including Nike Chief Design Officer, John Hoke. More than half of the apprentices were offered employment at Nike's WHQ at the completion of the apprenticeship.
